The World Cup Fan Village at Rockefeller Center
When the FIFA World Cup 2026™ came to New York, Rockefeller Center became a premier destination for fans from around the world. As part of the NYNJ World Cup 26™ & Telemundo Fan Village, visitors gathered for live entertainment, sponsor activations, and a massive architectural projection mapping experience across Rockefeller Center’s iconic façade.
For four weeks over the summer, the Quince team transformed approximately 52,000 square feet across 743 feet of the façade into one of North America’s tallest building projection mapping installations. The landmark became a monumental storytelling canvas celebrating the energy, excitement, and global spirit of the World Cup.
THE PROJECT VISION
Tishman Speyer partnered with Quince Imaging to transform the iconic façade of Rockefeller Center into an immersive centerpiece for the NYNJ World Cup 26™ & Telemundo Fan Village.
Standing 850 feet above Midtown Manhattan, the historic Art Deco skyscraper provided an extraordinary canvas for large-scale storytelling. The vision was to create a nightly projection experience that celebrated the energy and international spirit of the FIFA World Cup while supporting live entertainment, branded content, sponsor activations, and fan engagement.
The Quince team delivered a complete turnkey solution that included projection system engineering, technology integration, creative content, media server programming, and four weeks of technical operations.
ENGINEERING AN ICONIC LANDMARK
Transforming Rockefeller Center into a projection surface of this scale required extensive planning, close coordination, and precision engineering. The building’s Art Deco façade includes vertical setbacks, varying surface depths, and intricate architectural details that required detailed projection studies and careful content optimization.
Twenty-one Panasonic PT-RQ45 projectors and supporting infrastructure were lifted by crane onto an adjacent rooftop in Midtown Manhattan. The operation required temporary street closures, specialized permitting, traffic management, structural coordination, and collaboration with Tishman Speyer, city agencies, and production partners while normal building operations continued.
Once installed, the system was aligned and edge-blended across approximately 743 vertical feet of façade. Extreme projection distances and steep vertical angles demanded precise calibration to maintain consistent brightness, color, and image geometry from street level to the upper portions of the building.
The project also operated during the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and America250 celebrations. Despite restricted access, heightened security, and continuous pedestrian traffic, Quince Imaging delivered dependable nightly performance throughout the four-week activation.
TECHNOLOGY AT MONUMENTAL SCALE
Large-scale architectural projection mapping requires an integrated combination of projection hardware, media servers, environmental protection, engineering, and creative expertise.
Quince Imaging deployed 21 Panasonic PT-RQ45 4K RGB laser projectors, three Disguise VX4 media servers, and three Proietta F50X2 weatherproof enclosures to illuminate approximately 52,000 square feet of the Rockefeller Center façade.
The installation marked the North American debut of Panasonic’s flagship PT-RQ45 projector platform, demonstrating its brightness, color performance, and long-distance image fidelity on one of the industry’s most technically demanding architectural canvases.
Three Disguise VX4 media servers synchronized content across the entire system, while the Proietta weatherproof enclosures protected the projection equipment during nearly one month of continuous outdoor operation.
OUTSTANDING RESULTS
Throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Rockefeller Center became a major gathering place for fans in New York City, welcoming thousands of visitors each day.
