Quince Imaging Elevates NCAA Final Four With Immersive Projection Mapping at the 2018 Tournament
Quince Imaging was selected to deliver sports-arena projection mapping and technical expertise for the 2018 NCAA Final Four Tournament held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Partnering with The Famous Group and under the direction of the NCAA, Quince Imaging played a pivotal role in creating a fan-engaging visual experience broadcast to millions across the country.
From Saturday, March 31 to Monday, April 2, fans witnessed the court transform into a canvas of dynamic light, animation, and motion. The Villanova Wildcats ultimately claimed the 2018 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship—but every game throughout the tournament weekend began with a visual celebration that redefined pre-game entertainment.
Immersive Court Mapping in Real Time
Quince’s projection system turned the court into an immersive storytelling platform, seamlessly displaying 3D animated visuals and high-energy content developed by The Famous Group. Custom graphics, team branding, and animated intros played out in real time, enhancing the in-arena and broadcast viewer experience.
Each round featured tailored visuals, pre-game theatrics, and team introductions that added emotional momentum and visual drama to the event. The entire experience elevated the tournament into a multi-sensory show, raising the bar for collegiate sports presentations.
Technical Precision and High-Impact Resolution
To support a global broadcast audience exceeding 16 million viewers, Quince Imaging engineered and installed a state-of-the-art system consisting of eight high-quality 4K projectors. These units delivered rich pixel density and contrast, ensuring crisp visibility both in the arena and on camera.
Rigorous on-site testing was conducted to ensure flawless performance. Quince coordinated closely with multiple vendors to integrate systems for enhancement lighting, LED displays, audio, and control systems—delivering a seamless, high-impact environment.
Trusted by the NCAA and Beyond
This event came on the heels of Quince Imaging’s successful permanent arena installation at the University of Florida in Fall 2017. That project laid the foundation for continued NCAA collaboration and cemented Quince’s reputation as a leader in projection technology for collegiate and professional sports.
“We are thankful to the NCAA for the fantastic opportunity to provide our expertise and systems for this year’s Final Four,” said Scott Williams, COO of Quince Imaging. “Much like the college teams here, the Quince team has worked tirelessly to reach the pinnacle of our profession. This event is a tremendous step toward achieving our goal.”
From Gainesville to San Antonio, Quince Imaging remains focused on one mission: elevating the in-game fan experience through precision technology and compelling visual storytelling.
